THE QUESTION
As part of the area-based mobility programme metropolitan region of Amsterdam and a submitted request to the Meerjarenprogramma Infrastructuur, Ruimte en Transport (MIRT) a study was carried out to determine whether extending the Noord-Zuidlijn to Schiphol Airport, and possibly Hoofddorp, is financially feasible and desirable. Part of the funding would have to come from passenger fare payments. As part of the application, Vervoerregio Amsterdam first wanted to determine the current passenger revenues from Amsterdam to Schiphol Airport and vice versa.
HYPERCUBE’S WORK
Based on source data provided by carriers involved, Hypercube has set up a model in which the current mobility mix between Amsterdam and Schiphol and the associated revenues per kilometre can be analysed. This picture was visualised for different target groups in order to be prepared for possible fare differentiation.
Based on these images, an overall picture was set up with passenger flows and corresponding revenues per passenger kilometre in which the possibility of zooming in on a low geographical level was retained.
RESULTS
The results of the study were made available. These were then used as input for a cost-benefit analysis to be carried out in the coming years as part of the Meerjarenprogramma Infrastructuur, Ruimte en Transport (MIRT).
