THE QUESTION

The Metropoolregio Rotterdam Den Haag (MRDH) was curious to what extent adjustments in the product and fare house could contribute to a future-proof, good and accessible public transport in the region.

HYPERCUBE’S WORK

Initially, based on all user transactions in the region, we conducted a comprehensive market scan to identify the characteristics of public transport in the area. Based on this, we then used the scenario tool to understand the impact of various fare measures, such as the introduction of discount outside peak hours and the harmonisation of fares. Here, both the revenues for the operators involved and the financial impact on (various groups of) passengers were considered.

RESULTS

The study resulted in a new, up-to-date MRDH fare framework. It has also fuelled discussion for specific choices within that framework.
